Healthy Freezer Treats Recipe from Your Summer Bounty

April 24, 2022 By Mike Lucero 1 Comment

Summer’s here, and with soaring temps in our area, staying cool is always on our mind. We can’t keep the house as cold as we’d like because we’d love to eat some food for the next few months, as well as plan on having a little pocket money in our old age (needless to say, our electric bills soar in the south during the summer, especially a hot summer).

Frozen Treats Can Be Healthy!

One of the great ways to have healthy treats and keep our cool are freezer pops! We found these frozen treat forms a few years ago that is just perfect! They capture the juice if it runs and makes it easy to sip instead of making a mess everywhere. However, it is a large serving, so if you’d like something a little smaller, you can go with a push pop mold or even a standard popsicle mold. Or if you have wee ones, this pacifier-type mold is awesome!

There is a stainless steel mold for those of you staying away from plastics and silicons.

Today I’m over at GNOWFGLIN sharing one of our favorite frozen summer treats — Watermelon on a Stick.

We also love making other fruit blends to create freezer treats with. In the summer, our bananas go bad fast, and while I love throwing overly ripe bananas in the freezer for smoothies and baked goods, I also love making this treat as something special

Banana Pineapple Freezer Treats

In a blender, puree:

  • 1/3 of fresh pineapple (cut in chunks- about 2 cups)
  • 1 ripe banana – can be frozen
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 TB sugar
  • Blend these up to a consistency you love – we need it perfectly smooth for our texture-challenged boy.
  • Pour into molds of your choice and freeze.

How do you stay cool in the summer heat?
