Just like with Brown Sugar that I wrote about not long ago, powdered sugar is one of those pantry items that I don’t store much of, but might find myself using a lot. Why waste the space stocking something that I can make myself so easily?
How to Make Your Own Powdered Sugar
1. Place 1 Cup of white sugar for every cup of powdered sugar you need in a blender.
2. Blend the sugar until it is a powder*.
3. Allow it to settle in your blender before opening.
4. Store in an airtight container.
*Be careful if using a plastic food processor or blender. The sugar can etch the sides.
If you are trying this for smooth icing, it may or may not work for you depending on how fine of a dust your blender or food processor can make. But try it for baking where it is not as demanding for the super-fine powder.
It really is THAT easy. The reason I’m sharing this is to show you that there are a lot of things we rely on from the grocery stores can be done at home. Or, it’s easy to find an alternative way to do things. Using my food storage space on one item that can make many different items is a better use of my space than storing a bunch of smaller quantity of things that you don’t use as much. It’s smart food storage!
